Research Interests
Morphological and functional plasticity of skeletal muscle with focus on muscle regeneration.
Description
The research interest is centralized in the study of morphological and functional adaptations involved in skeletal muscle injury and regeneration. Thus, the group has studied the role of beta2 adrenergic, TGF-beta/Smad and heat shock proteins intracellular pathways in the muscle regenerative process. In addition, they are interested in the investigation of possible strategies (amino acid supplementation, pharmacological treatment, cell transplantation, etc) to prevent or treat muscle injuries and to improve the regenerative capacity of skeletal muscles in syndromes and muscular dysfunction (Marfan syndrome and muscular dystrophies) and during aging.
